AFE Group researchers Dr. Christian Folberth and Dr. Pavel Kiparisov will present results from the ANFOS project at the workshop “Possible Effects of Nuclear War: An Austrian Perspective”, taking place on 29 June 2026 at the Austrian Academy of Sciences in Vienna.

IIASA, the Friends of IIASA, and the Austrian Academy of Sciences will host the inaugural Howard Raiffa Lecture, featuring Avril Haines, President-elect of the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace and former United States Director of National Intelligence. The lecture is part of the launch of the Howard Raiffa Academy, a joint initiative of IIASA and the Friends of IIASA.

On 29 and 30 June 2026, Mozambique's Fundo Nacional de Investigação (FNI) in collaboration with IIASA and the Institute's Sub-Saharan Africa Regional Member Organization (SSARMO) will co-convene a national workshop in Maputo, Mozambique, focused on strengthening the use of systems approaches in science, technology, and innovation (STI) policy and cross-sector decision-making.

IIASA will participate in the Sustainability Research and Innovation (SRI) Africa Regional Conference 2026 in Cape Town, South Africa, contributing to discussions on how systems approaches can help connect science, policy, and society to support sustainability transitions across Africa.

On Monday, 29 June 2026, at NOVA School of Business and Economics (Carcavelos Campus, in Lisbon - Portugal) the Economic Modelling Workshop on Circular Economy will take place bringing together young scholars, leading researchers and policy experts in the field of circular economy. The event is endorsed as a related event of WCERE - The World Congress of Environmental and Resource Economists, which will follow the workshop.

Following the success of the inaugural Overshoot Conference in Laxenburg, Austria in 2025, the second Overshoot Conference will bring together leading researchers, policymakers, innovators, and communicators to advance the global dialogue on overshoot pathways and responses in Beijing, China. The conference will be hosted by IIASA and Tsinghua University.

A SEP Orchestration Working Group has formally commenced under the ICONICS steering committee.

The SEP is pleased to call for papers to our Special Issue on “Socioeconomic futures frameworks for motivating actions for sustainability” in the journal Futures.

The SEP is envisaged as a re-evaluation of the architecture of the SSPs, guided by a community-based process. A number of activities are underway for 2026, and the scientific community is asked to provide critical input.

IIASA is pleased to join ISTA and the Complexity Science Hub for a panel discussion exploring how journalists and communicators can uphold accuracy, context, and trust in science reporting.

Researchers from the Systemic Risk and Resilience (SYRR) Research Group within IIASA’s Advancing Systems Analysis (ASA) Program will participate in the Zurich Climate Resilience Alliance (ZCRA) Global Learning Event 2026, taking place from 1–3 June 2026 at the University of Birmingham, United Kingdom.
