IIASA Senior Research Scholar, Ping Yowargana, will participate in the Concluding Meeting of the 32nd OSCE Economic and Environmental Forum in Prague, contributing to a session exploring the role of science in diplomacy and its potential to strengthen cooperation and trust across borders.

The Concluding Meeting of the 32nd OSCE Economic and Environmental Forum, dedicated to “Strengthening security and stability in the OSCE area through anticipating technologies and science-based diplomacy,” will take place from 10 to 11 September 2026 in Prague, Czech Republic.

The Economic and Environmental Forum is the main meeting cycle within the economic and environmental dimension of the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE), bringing together participating States, international organizations, academia, business, and civil society to exchange good practices and strengthen dialogue on shared economic, environmental, and security challenges.

Ping will speak during Session III: The role of science in diplomacy on 10 September. The session will explore science diplomacy and policymaking in multilateral settings, including how sustained scientific cooperation can build and maintain trust across borders and how science diplomacy frameworks and shared research infrastructures can support international cooperation.

The session will be moderated by Ambassador Evangelos Kalpadakis, Permanent Representative of Greece to the OSCE, with Robert Abisoghomonyan, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Trade of the Republic of Armenia, delivering the keynote address.

IIASA’s participation builds on its engagement in the Joint Preparatory Meeting of the 32nd OSCE Economic and Environmental Forum earlier this week, where IIASA Director General Hans Joachim (John) Schellnhuber delivered the keynote address, Building transnational bridges by multilateral research, highlighting the importance of international scientific cooperation in addressing complex challenges that transcend national borders. He was joined at the meeting by IIASA Science Diplomacy Director and Head of Communications and External Relations Susie Kitchens and Ping.
