IIASA recognizes outstanding research contributions

IIASA recently instituted a new system of awards to recognize outstanding contributions towards meeting the strategic priorities and values of the institute. We are proud to announce that five IIASA research activities have been recognized in the inaugural 2022 award cycle.

Brian Fath receives Board of Regents Faculty Award

Senior IIASA researcher and Young Scientists Summer Program (YSSP) Scientific Coordinator, Brian Fath, has received the 2022 University System of Maryland Board of Regents Faculty Award for Excellence in research, scholarship, and creativity.

IIASA researchers recognized for advancing open science

There is an increasing awareness in the scientific community that open-source scientific software is an integral requirement for open science, increasing transparency, and the reproducibility of research findings. Two manuscripts by IIASA researchers presenting state-of-the-art developments furthering these goals were recently recognized by the scientific journals where these works were published.

Awards for outstanding early-career scientists

Four exceptional young scientists from the 2021 Young Scientists Summer Program (YSSP) have been recognized as YSSP award finalists. Two will receive funding to continue their research projects at IIASA and two candidates have been given Honorable Mentions for outstanding effort.

Kian Mintz-Woo receives Andrew Light Award for Public Philosophy 2021

Two IIASA stalwarts honored with lifetime achievement awards

Internationally renowned IIASA researchers Guenther Fischer and Nebojsa Nakicenovic were the first to be honored with the newly established IIASA Lifetime Achievement Award at Monday night’s public lecture co-organized by IIASA and the Austrian Academy of Sciences.

Joeri Rogelj receives ISC Early Career Scientist Award for Europe

IIASA researcher Joeri Rogelj received the Early Career Science Award for Europe during the International Science Council (ISC) General Assembly in Paris last week for his exceptional contribution to science, international scientific collaboration, and policy engagement.

Sebastian Poledna receives Complexity in Macroeconomics award

IIASA Acting Research Group Leader Sebastian Poledna has won a paper competition on the subject of complexity and macroeconomics, organized by the Rebuilding Macroeconomics (RM) Network. The network is funded by the Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC) in the UK, and hosted by the National Institute of Economic and Social Research (NIESR), which is the oldest independent economic research institute in the UK.
