On 4 November, participants of the Österreichische Studienstiftung, the Austrian Academy of Sciences' (ÖAW) talent development programme for outstanding and socially engaged university students, will visit the International Institute for Applied Systems Analysis (IIASA) in Laxenburg for a hands-on workshop on Introduction to Systems Analysis.
The Österreichische Studienstiftung, founded by the Austrian Academy of Sciences (ÖAW), supports exceptional students from all academic disciplines through seminars, mentoring, workshops, and opportunities to engage with leading researchers and institutions throughout their studies.
During the workshop, led by Sibel Eker, Senior Research Scholar at IIASA, participants will explore how systems thinking helps tackle complex societal challenges such as climate change, sustainable development, and interconnected economic and environmental issues. The interactive session introduces key concepts of systems analysis, including systems mapping, identifying cause-and-effect relationships, recognizing typical system behaviours, and finding leverage points for effective intervention.
The visit highlights the close connection between the ÖAW and IIASA, both institutions committed to advancing interdisciplinary research and developing the next generation of scientists and decision-makers.
