On Monday, 27 January, IIASA Deputy Director General, Karen Lips, will be one of the speakers at a parallel session on the changing context for science diplomacy during the The Muscat Global Knowledge Dialogue, which takes place from 26–28 January in Muskat, Oman. This segment of the International Science Council (ISC) General Assembly focuses on science and is open to a wider public. Following this event, she will represent IIASA at the Third ISC General Assembly on 29 and 30 January, which is the premier occasion for ISC members and affiliated bodies, fellows, and partners from all domains of science and regions of the world to meet for cross-disciplinary, strategic discussions on challenges and priorities for international cooperation in science.

On Monday and Tuesday this week, IIASA hosted two classes from the Wiedner Gymnasium high-school for a half-day workshop to explore systems thinking through the life cycle analysis of a chocolate bar.
The students were encouraged to think about the complexity of the natural and social world they live in - this is one of the key objectives of the IIASA School Visits Initiative. The interactive workshops are designed to help students understand the broader implications of their choices and actions and equip them with valuable problem-solving skills.

Join CLIMAAX’s second Webstival: From Insights to Action, Advancing Climate Resilience!
As the challenges of climate change become increasingly severe, building regional resilience is more important than ever. The CLIMAAX project, where the SYRR group co-developed a framework and toolbox for Climate Risk Assessment, supports 60 regions in assessing their climate risks, thus helping them to better understand, prepare for, and manage these risks and opportunities. The project provides local and regional administrative units with access to climate risk profiles, improved early warning systems, and guidance for developing comprehensive risk management plans.
