IIASA, the Austrian Academy of Sciences, and the Finnish Academy of Science and Letters are co-organizing a parallel session at the Scientific Advice Mechanism to the European Commission Conference that explores how to effectively reconcile global coordination with national priorities in addressing the world’s most pressing challenges.

The 15^th International Conference of the Integrated Disaster Risk Management (IDRiM) Society (IDRiM2025), titled “Advancing disaster risk reduction in islands and remote areas”, highlights the distinct risk environments and multifaceted challenges faced by islands and remote areas. In this context, the conference places accessibility (physical, social, economic, institutional, etc.) at the center examining its impact on disaster prevention and mitigation, emergency response, and disaster recovery in the era of climate crisis and globalization.

The IIASA Population and Just Societies (POPJUS) Program is sharing new research findings data at the digital conference: “Rural re-population: Attracting skilled migrants” 29^th April, 10:00-12:00 CET. This event is a collaboration between IIASA and 9 other institutes under the  Horizon Europe funded migration and development project: PREMIUM_EU.

This installment of the Resilience Hub Series presented by the Systemic Risk and Resilience Research Group of the IIASA Advancing Systems Analysis Program will feature Prof Bruce Malamud from Durham University in the United Kingdom. Prof Malamud will explore how we can use innovative tools such as visualization, serious games, virtual/augmented reality, and artificial intelligence to communicate resilience more effectively.  

Wiedner High School is hosting this year's GALESS conference on 'Empty Pockets.' Over 20 participants from Uganda, Thailand, and the US will spend a day at IIASA, where they will join our researchers in discussing topics related to climate justice and the fair sharing of responsibility.

Anne Goujon will deliver the keynote talk at the 8th Annual Symposium hosted by the Centre for Fertility and Health in Oslo, Norway.

IIASA Director General Hans Joachim (John) Schellnhuber will be a keynote speaker and panelist at the upcoming International Network for Traditional Building, Architecture, and Urbanism (INTBAU) Qatar Conference which will take place during the Earthna Summit 2025.

Version 5 of the Global Agro-Ecological Zoning (GAEZ) tool will be launched on 14 April 2025, as part of the 80^th Anniversary of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO). Elena Rovenskaya is invited to speak at the high-level side event on promoting economic connectivity in the OSCE during the OSCE Ministerial Council in Milan. 

As part of its science-diplomacy mandate, and building on its continued engagement with the OSCE, IIASA convened a high-level event to facilitate dialogue on how to promote connectivity, trade, and economic cooperation in the European and Eurasian space. This event took place on the margins of the 24th OSCE Ministerial Council in Vienna.

IIASA is hosting the 54th meeting of the Task Force on Integrated Assessment Modelling (TFIAM) under the LRTAP Convention.
