The Second Austrian Assessment Report on Climate Change (AAR2) is a landmark scientific publication - spanning nearly 800 pages - that outlines the current state of climate research in Austria and presents pathways toward a climate-neutral, sustainable, and just society.

Over 200 researchers from more than 50 institutions contributed to this interdisciplinary effort over the course of three years. The report was coordinated by IIASA’s Program Director Keywan Riahi and Senior Research Scholar Daniel Huppmann, alongside Harald Rieder (BOKU University) and Margreth Keiler (University of Innsbruck and the Austrian Academy of Sciences, ÖAW).

To mark the release of this major publication, Daniel Huppmann joins Martin Puntigam and the Science Busters for a special live podcast recording, in collaboration with the Austrian Panel on Climate Change (APCC).

On stage:

  • Daniel Huppmann
  • Martin Puntigam – Science Busters
  • Margreth Keiler – University of Innsbruck / Austrian Academy of Sciences (ÖAW)

With deep expertise in systems analysis and climate policy modeling, Huppmann offers valuable insights into the AAR2’s key findings and their implications for Austria’s transformation toward climate neutrality.

The AAR2 is Austria’s most comprehensive scientific initiative on climate change to date. Structured in eight chapters, it examines the physical science of climate change, projected impacts across economic sectors, and practical options for emission reduction, adaptation, and systemic transformation.

A timely, thought-provoking discussion at the intersection of science, policy, and communication.
