The International Institute for Applied Systems Analysis (IIASA) is taking part in the 8th Session of the Global Platform for Disaster Risk Reduction (GP) in Geneva, the UN’s main forum for reviewing progress on the Sendai Framework.
Held since 2007, GP sessions gather governments, UN bodies, and many other stakeholders to share knowledge, track achievements, and speed up disaster-risk-reduction efforts. Their conclusions feed into the UN High-Level Political Forum on Sustainable Development, strengthening risk-informed delivery of the 2030 Agenda.
This year, IIASA researcher Robert Sakic Trogrlic (SYRR/ASA) is co-organizing a thematic session under the MYRIAD-EU project called “Understanding Systemic Risk in the Age of Polycrisis.”
The session will convene leading experts to examine how interconnected hazards can trigger cascading crises from local to global scales. Its goal is to identify strategies that build systemic resilience, moving beyond single-hazard thinking to address the broader landscape of vulnerability and risk.
