The ECSA 2026 conference is framed around the notion of Citizen Science bridging Centre and Periphery. This theme will explore the diversity of contexts in which citizen science unfolds. Scholars, practitioners, and community actors are welcome to assess the state of the field, explore emerging directions, and imagine its future potential.
The ECSA 2026 conference explores how citizen science bridges the gap between centre and periphery—geographically, culturally, and institutionally. From dense urban centres to remote regions, the conference encourages reflection on how citizen science can reduce inequalities, support sustainability, inform decision-making, and honour diverse knowledge systems.
IIASA’s NODES group will present some of its many citizen science highlights in the field of urban solutions, SDGs and plastic pollution, research infrastructure, upscaling citizen science and empowering citizens for environmental action.
