ENFORCE aims to enhance environmental compliance by integrating citizen science with innovative technologies. Our mission is to bridge the gaps in monitoring and enforcement to combat environmental risks, such as biodiversity loss, deforestation and pollution.

The ENFORCE project objectives are to:

  • Empower citizens to monitor environmental crimes and report violations
  • Enhance data quality and reliability for environmental compliance
  • Utilize geo-spatial intelligence and AI for real-time environmental monitoring
  • Promote co-creation and collaboration through Living Labs
  • Support the European Green Deal and other major sustainability initiatives
  • Foster stronger environmental governance and public participation

The ENFORCE project seeks to strengthen environmental compliance by combining citizen science with innovative technologies. Its goal is to close the gap between locally collected environmental data and regulatory requirements, and to encourage cooperation among community groups, researchers, and local authorities. By adopting a customized, interdisciplinary approach, ENFORCE empowers communities to take an active role in environmental monitoring and enforcement.

The capabilities of the ENFORCE project will be demonstrated through 8 case studies across 7 European countries, addressing a wide range of stakeholders, challenges and potential solutions for involving citizen science in the field of environmental compliance.

The team in NODES is leading Task 3.1 on tools for citizen science. Building on our GEO-QUEST app, the case study in Puglia, Italy, will be supported with a citizen science tool for reporting illegal fires and waste dumping.

The project is led by GAC (G.A.C. Group) and includes:
