This round table forum, jointly hosted by the International Institute for Applied Systems Analysis (IIASA), the International Union of Forest Research Organizations (IUFRO), and the National University of Life and Environmental Sciences of Ukraine (NUBiP) with support from the Austrian Federal Ministry for Agriculture, Forestry, Regions, and Water Management (BML), will bring together global experts to explore pathways toward catalyzing coordinated and impactful international action to address Ukrainian forest research and education needs and priorities.

From 29 August to 1 September 2023, The European Association of Agricultural Economists (EAAE) will hold its 17th congress, which serves as a dynamic platform for convening scholars, practitioners, policymakers, and stakeholders to discuss the pressing issues in agriculture and food sectors. Setting the tone for the discussion, IIASA researchers will organize a pre-congress workshop titled “Towards New Baseline Scenarios in Ex-Ante Modelling of Land-Use and Management.”

Moderated by IIASA Capacity Development and Academic Training Unit Dean, Fabian Wagner, this episode explores the work of researchers in building capacity in systems analysis around the world. 

Under the title, What we want, a double bill of eco-theater* explores the potentially existential threat to human existence through the metaphors of breathing and eating while seeking a way forward. Both works, Breath and Piece of Cake, strive to counter-narratives of futility by centering stories of resilience, innovation, and interconnection. The performance will include and encourage discussions with the audience throughout the evening.

Join NaturaConnect’s webinar to explore different Nature Future Scenarios that will help to shape the design of a coherent and resilient TEN-N. We will discover how the Nature Future Scenarios can be translated into land use scenarios, how they can be used for identifying connectivity and conservation priorities and finally, how these could inform the design of the TEN-N.

IIASA is hosting a FireLinks Cost Action Synergy Workshop on 5-7 June. The FireLinks COST Action, also known as "Fire in the Earth System: Science & Society" aims to establish a robust and interconnected network of scientists and practitioners dedicated to forest fire research and land management. The project brings together experts from various disciplines, including fire dynamics, fire risk management, fire effects on vegetation, fauna, soil, and water, as well as socio-economic, historical, geographical, political perception, and land management approaches.

IIASA will host the project partners and stakeholders of MOSAIC (Managing protective forests facIng clImate change compound events) for their first project management meeting and technical workshop. The event's aims are to cover issues of climate change data mining and structuring, with a focus on data freely available and its condition of uses; project storage infrastructure; downscaling and upscaling processes; and possible exchanges with relevant networks.

This workshop "Material Cycles in Response to the Climate and Environment Crisis" brought together participants from IIASA and the OJEong Resilience Institute (OJERI) at Korea University to discuss the growing importance of climate change mitigation and adaptation.
