The annual meeting of the European Geosciences Union (EGU) will take place from 14-19 April 2024 in Vienna. Principal Research Scholar Linda See will be giving two poster presentations, one on the LAMASUS project and one on emissions reporting in wartime Ukraine. 

On the 1st of July 2024 in Leuven (Belgium), CircEUlar, together with IAM-Circ, CIRCOMOD, and ScarCyclET, will organize a Joint workshop on Circular Economy Economic Modelling. The objective is to provide a platform for researchers – especially young, non-tenured economists – who are interested in advancing our understanding of the economic aspects of the circular economy.

Climateurope2, funded by EU Horizon Europe, is a coordination and supporting action dedicated to promoting the use of trustworthy climate services, enhancing the climate service community, and fostering grassroots standardisation

IIASA Energy, Climate, and Environment Program Director, Keywan Riahi, has been re-appointed to the UN Secretary-General's Group of Ten High-level Representatives for the 2024-2025 term.

This is the kick-off meeting of the HEU project MultiFutures, the 10 partners of the project will come together for 1,5 days to discuss the workplan for the project in the next 12 months.

Sustainable Development Goal 2 (SDG 2) aims to create a world free of hunger. Africa is not making enough progress towards achieving this target with about 20% of the population experiencing ongoing hunger. In a new study, IIASA researchers developed a model to demonstrate how the reliability of food supply in West Africa can be enhanced in a cost-effective way by accounting for low-yield events.

The International Institute for Applied Systems Analysis (IIASA) hosted a delegation from the Institute of Economic Research of the Slovak Academy of Sciences (SAS). The visit aimed at fostering collaboration and in-depth discussions on key economic models and research areas.

On the 6-7th February 2024, the second workshop of fairSTREAM project was hosted at IISER in Pune, India, bringing together food, water and biodiversity stakeholders from the Upper Bhima Basin. 

As part of the COMMITTED project, Zhejiang University of Technology (ZJUT) and Tsinghua University (TU) will host a knowledge-sharing and capacity-building workshop aimed at addressing critical issues related to climate change mitigation in China and beyond.  

Research conducted by scientists from IIASA and Princeton University suggests that a combination of insurance subsidies and policies that promote “prosocial preferences” ― decision-making preferences that account for community wellbeing ― can help facilitate optimal climate risk management and reduce economic losses.     

As part of the COMMITTED project, Lahore University of Management Sciences (LUMS) will host a knowledge-sharing and capacity-building workshop aimed at addressing critical issues related to climate change mitigation in Pakistan and beyond.

Update of the human core of the SSPs: Population and Human Capital Projections to 2100

The Wittgenstein Centre for Demography and Global Human Capital (IIASA, OeAW, University of Vienna) will start Master's Programme "Global Demography" at the University of Vienna with its fourth cohort of students in October 2024.
