Climate pOlicy assessment and Mitigation Modeling to Integrate national and global TransiTion pathways for Environmental-friendly Development (COMMITTED)

There are no pathways to reaching globally agreed climate targets without major-emitting emerging Asian economies (as well as other G20 economies) taking significant steps towards climate neutrality. The COMMITTED project intends to reinforce global climate change mitigation efforts by supporting developing countries' experts' work on national and sectoral GHG emissions modelling, strengthen capacity building for GHG emissions modelling and exchange best practices and know-how between leading EU and Asian modelers (including China and India), working closely with the government.

IIASA’s researchers will contribute to several work packages, including: 

• Leading and facilitating workshops to share experience on model-based policymaking
• Capacity co-creation and training on National model development, e.g., enhancing the capability of systems engineering models (e.g., MESSAGEix) and computational general equilibrium (CGE) models (e.g., AIMS/HUB) by soft linking them to each other. 
• Hosting scenarios and data of modeling teams and visualization and model intercomparison using IIASA’s Scenario Explorer 
• Developing national carbon budget scenarios for Asian countries consistent with global efforts for meeting Paris Agreement climate targets
