IIASA Advancing Systems Analysis Program is convening a session at the Science Summit during the 79th session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA79) to discuss a new global security framework grounded in a science-informed understanding of both social and biophysical realities.

The EU Horizon Project HYway (Climate Impacts of a hydrogen economy: The pathway to knowledge) officially kicks-off!  The project is investigating the effects of hydrogen emissions on the climate and the environment.   

You are warmly invited to the premiere of the first full-length, interactive stage work addressing the state and future of the planet. On Monday, 14 October, the future generation (born in 2050 and 25 years old) will visit Vienna as part of a mission to understand what people knew, did, feared, hoped, and dreamed of around 2025. 

The IIASA's Agriculture, Forestry and Ecosystem Services Group (AFE) and collaboration partners will participate in the 10^th ForestSAT conference with several presentations and co-chairing a session. The conference takes place in Rotorua, New Zealand, from 9 to 13 September 2024.

The NaturaConnect project team, co-coordinated by Piero Visconti (IIASA) and the German Centre for Integrative Biodiversity Research (iDiv), is meeting between the 16 – 19 September, in Grenoble, France. This annual internal meeting brings together the partners of the NaturaConnect Consortium to take stock of and celebrate key project milestones and plan and coordinate upcoming work in 2025. Around 40 members of the Consortium will be attending the meeting, which is being hosted by Consortium partner and one of the six NaturaConnect case study leads, the French National Centre for Scientific Research (CNRS). 

EQU researchers will participate in the conference "Governing Sustainability Transformations: Changing Drivers, Driving Change," organized by the Wageningen Centre of Sustainability Governance (WCSG) in Wageningen, Netherlands.

The Systemic Risk and Resilience Group in ASA will host this year's workshop at IIASA on "Social Capital and Development Trends of Countryside in Knowledge and Risk Society".

The Mid-term Events of CIRCOMOD and CircEUlar projects, along with the European Environment Agency (EEA) Workshop, will take place on the 27th of September in Brussels. 

The 14th International Conference of the IDRiM Society entitled "Disaster Resilient Communities for Life" will be held on 28 - 30 August 2024 in Cartagena, Colombia. It is organized by Colombia's National Unit for Disaster Risk Management (UNGRD) in collaboration with IDRiM and in partnership with various national and international organizations.

IIASA, in collaboration with its US partner "Friends of IIASA", is organizing the inaugural workshop for the proposed Raiffa Center for Science Diplomacy. This event will gather international experts to shape the Center's framework and identify key areas where it can make a lasting impact.

The URBIS24 Workshop will gather a diverse community of urban policymakers, Earth Observation researchers, service providers and various end-users. Taking place at ESA/ESRIN in Frascati, Italy, during September 16–18, 2024, this event will offer an insightful exploration of urban challenges and innovative EO-integrated solutions.

On Tuesday, the 17th of September 2024, CircEUlar will organize a stakeholder workshop at the House of Connections in Groningen (The Netherlands).

The ESA Living Planet Symposium 2025 on Earth observation will be held in Vienna, where numerous colleagues from the NODES research group will be actively participating.

Kai Kornhuber, Senior Research Scholar in the Integrated Climate Impacts Research Group of the IIASA Energy, Climate, and Environment Program, will deliver a keynote at Humboldt University of Berlin's upcoming Fragile Lives 2024 expert conference.

IIASA Director General John Schellnhuber will be one of the key speakers at the 16th Alvar Aalto Symposium in Jyväskylä, Finland. The theme of this year's event is, The weight of architecture during the era of extremes. The event takes place over two days under three overarching topics, with presentations on Environment, Resources, and Architecture. Schellnhuber's talk will take place on Thursday, 22 August from 14:00-14:30 as part of the Environment topic.
