IIASA researchers will participate in the European Geosciences Union (EGU) 2022  conference presenting research on climate change, risk and resilience, energy, citizen science, and more.

This IIASA 50th anniversary event will feature a collaboration between IIASA and the Iran National Science Foundation (INSF) addressing global, regional and local challenges with systems analysis.

World Water Day, held annually on 22 March, celebrates water and raises awareness of the 2 billion people living without access to safe water. A core focus of World Water Day is to inspire action towards Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 6: water and sanitation for all by 2030.

Dr. Hossein Hossani from the IIASA Cooperation and Transformative Governance (CAT) Research Group is the founder of YolaCare initiative in Nigeria, whose application, created under Monaco Impact, promises to bring solutions to child healthcare. The YolaCare application will be launched on Thursday, March 3 in Yola, Adamawa State, Nigeria.

Sustaining Biodiversity: A Challenge for Science and Policy

This two-day event in cooperation with the Austrian Academy of Sciences will begin with an evening event on 16 November 2022 that demonstrates how systems analysis can contribute to solving many of today’s global challenges as well as explore the future of this transdisciplinary field. The second day will feature a major international conference on systems analysis.

IIASA 50th anniversary celebrations will include a conference hosted by the Technology Information, Forecasting and Assessment Council (TIFAC) and IIASA. The event will build on the expertise and interlinkages between the system analysts’ communities in Asia to discuss and analyze transformative approaches to achieving sustainability across multiple stakeholder, sectors and regions.

We are happy to announce the winner of the EDITS-ARTS Competition. The first prize goes to Futuregram2050, who created a powerful 2-minute video to portray a positive transformative future and has clearly adhered to the three evaluation criteria. The production has a compelling narrative that presents a balance between having access to modern technologies and services, using modern digital solutions, while at the same time also willing to limit their demand.  

As part of the IIASA 50th anniversary celebrations, the Finnish IIASA Committee, the Academy of Finland and IIASA are jointly organizing an alumni event in Finland. This event "IIASA 50th Anniversary Seminar on Systems Analysis: Science-based Support for Policy Makers" will welcome speakers from IIASA as well as Finnish researchers and IIASA alumni in Finland.

IIASA Director General Albert van Jaarsveld has led a delegation to Jordan to consolidate collaboration with the country's scientific leaders and research communities.

Our 6th IIASA webinar will feature Amanda Palazzo, Ting Tang and Raya Muttarak to discuss women and science. Their exchanges will focus on how systems analysis research can provide insights into the challenges facing women in the context of a changing climate and the empowerment of women researchers.

Dr. Dipak Gyawali, senior guest research scholar with the Equity and Justice (EQU) research group at IIASA, will deliver a keynote speech at the 12th Mary Douglas Memorial Lecture: From Serendipity to the ‘Wave of the Future ! A hydro-engineer’s journey into Cultural Theory.

IIASA is participating in the Science Advice for Policy by European Academies (SAPEA) conference Science Advice Under Pressure in Brussels. This participation includes eminent speakers from the IIASA network as well as a policy simulation that explores international negotiations through an immersive role-play experience highlighting the roles of science advice. 

The UKRI and IIASA hosted a critical dialogue on the benefits of systems thinking in biodiversity research.

Dr. Shonali Pachauri will give a keynote presentation on Universal Access to Modern Energy Services: Development Imperative and Climate Opportunity. 

The Energy, Climate, and Environment (ECE) program is delighted to announce the first MESSAGEix Community Meeting. It will be held over two days: 9-10 May 2022. The meeting will bring together open source software and the modeling community.

IIASA demographer Raya Muttarak is invited to talk about the impacts of human-induced climate change on our lives, livelihoods and wellbeing in a virtual seminar organized by National University of Singapore

Many of the complex global challenges that we face are interlinked with socioeconomic issues. This webinar features citizen science expert Linda See and her experience in using earth observation and participatory approaches to conduct research and provide innovative tools and services to achieve the sustainable development goals.
