IIASA is participating in the Science Advice for Policy by European Academies (SAPEA) conference Science Advice Under Pressure in Brussels. This participation includes eminent speakers from the IIASA network as well as a policy simulation that explores international negotiations through an immersive role-play experience highlighting the roles of science advice.
Policy simulation
The simulation takes place in the near future and focuses on the social and environmental challenges connected with the cascading climate impacts on food safety. To address these challenges, an international group of committed countries, organizations, universities, and research institutes form a working group to develop a proposition and vote for a new regulation. The simulation is developed by the Centre for Systems Solutions (CRS) as part of the Horizon 2020 project CASCADES.
Conference speakers
The conference program includes eminent speakers from the IIASA network, notably:
- Nebojša Nakićenović, member of the Group of Chief Scientific Advisors to the European Commission, and IIASA Emeritus Research Scholar and former Deputy Director-General.
- Diana Ürge-Vorsatz, director, Centre for Climate Change and Sustainable Energy Policy, Central European University in Hungary, Chair of Working Group III at the IPCC, and IIASA alumna and Science Advisory Committee member.
Science Advice Under Pressure
This major public conference will bring together policymakers, science advisors, researchers and other professionals. The European Commission’s Scientific Advice Mechanism warmly invites everyone working at the science-policy interface to explore the key challenges of delivery science advice under pressure through a series of panel debates, interactive sessions and networking opportunities. We will reflect on the diverse experiences of many different actors in the field, debating the values that underpin science advice and sharing good practice.
