Biography

Marie Franquin is the External Relations Officer at the IIASA Communications and External Relations department. In this role, she engages with the global network of member countries and stakeholders to ensure impact of IIASA's cutting-edge systems analysis research and support fruitful scientific collaborations. She is very passionate about creating impact for science and evidence-informed policy making.

Previously, Franquin supported the European Commission's top level scientific advice structure that is the Scientific Advice Mechanism as Science Policy Officer for Euro-CASE as part of the SAPEA Consortium.

During her academic training, she became well versed in the techniques of cellular neuroscience as well as the ethical implications of research through her work on human induced pluripotent stem cells.

In parallel to her studies, she was also involved in several science communication initiatives and held the presidency of the Science & Policy Exchange from 2019 to 2020, where she worked to promote the early career researchers' voice in Canadian policymaking through public events and targeted reports, as well as participation in national conferences.

She obtained her undergraduate degree in Life Sciences from the Universite Pierre et Marie Curie in France, and her master's degree in Brain and Mind Sciences from University College London in the United Kingdom.
