IIASA and Beijing Normal University are co-organizing a symposium titled, The International Symposium on Polycrises and Systemic risks: The need for an integrative approach for assessment and governance. The event will take place in Beijing, China from 9 to 10 May 2024. IIASA Interim Deputy Director General for Science, Wolfgang Lutz, and IIASA Research Group Leader, Reinhard Mechler, will participate in the event to bring together different communities of risk and hazard research, explore their commonalities, and discuss improved policy options for dealing more effectively with systemic risks in the future.

IIASA Director General, John Schellnhuber, will be an invited speaker at the upcoming New European Bauhaus Festival in Brussels and participate in important conversations concerning the European Green Deal and the imperative of sustainable construction as part of a pathway toward a more sustainable future.

Twenty students from the International Christian School of Vienna, accompanied by their teachers, visited IIASA.

There has been a pivotal shift in the financial industry, which has broken down silos between finance and science.  Over 650 financial institutions have committed to shift their loan books and investment portfolios to achieve net zero emissions. Tens of thousands more are assessing the climate impact on and of their investments. To do so, financial institutions are navigating a complex environment of different climate scenarios and supporting tools. 

The annual meeting of the European Geosciences Union (EGU) will take place from 14-19 April 2024 in Vienna. Principal Research Scholar Linda See will be giving two poster presentations, one on the LAMASUS project and one on emissions reporting in wartime Ukraine. 

On the 1st of July 2024 in Leuven (Belgium), CircEUlar, together with IAM-Circ, CIRCOMOD, and ScarCyclET, will organize a Joint workshop on Circular Economy Economic Modelling. The objective is to provide a platform for researchers – especially young, non-tenured economists – who are interested in advancing our understanding of the economic aspects of the circular economy. 

Climate services play a pivotal role in the European Union's efforts to propel climate action, strengthen resilience, and foster a data-driven economy. The 2015 European research and innovation roadmap exemplified this commitment by fostering the co-development of climate services and enabling their market growth, aligned with the objectives of the EU Green Deal. Climateurope2, funded by EU Horizon Europe, is a coordination and supporting action dedicated to promoting the use of trustworthy climate services, enhancing the climate service community, and fostering grassroots standardisation

This is the kick-off meeting of the HEU project MultiFutures, the 10 partners of the project will come together for 1,5 days to discuss the workplan for the project in the next 12 months.

As part of the COMMITTED project, Zhejiang University of Technology (ZJUT) and Tsinghua University (TU) will host a knowledge-sharing and capacity-building workshop aimed at addressing critical issues related to climate change mitigation in China and beyond.

The macroeconomic agent-based model (MacroABM) developed by IIASA is gaining momentum. Researchers and practitioners working on the model, both from academic and policy institutions, will meet on 18-19 April 2024 in Schloss Laxenburg. This workshop will facilitate exchanges on the model, create a space to get support with practical issues, and share ideas.
