Ahead of the Wittgenstein Centre Conference 2024 on Delayed Reproduction: Challenges and Prospects, which is set to take place from 21-22 November, researchers from the IIASA Population and Just Societies Program, the Vienna Institute of Demography, and the University of Vienna look into the shifting trends, drivers, and consequences of delayed parenthood.

On 23 September 2024, a distinguished delegation of Heads of Missions from the Latin American region, led by its Dean, Ambassador Juan Francisco Facetti Fernandez, Permanent Representative of Paraguay to the International Organizations in Vienna, visited IIASA to explore avenues for meaningful research collaborations.

On August 27th, 2024, the International Institute for Applied System Analysis (IIASA) hosted a workshop titled "Environmental Crisis in Vietnam's Mekong Delta: Economic Impacts of Upstream Projects and the Urgent Need for Research on Mitigation and Adaptation" featuring the participation of the Vietnamese Ambassador to Austria, Mr. Nguyen Trung Kien and ,the First Secretary of the Embassy of Vietnam Mr. Le Van Ta along with representatives from Vietnam Academy for Water Resources (VAWR), SIWRR (Southern Institute of Water Resources Research, Vietnam), and VAST (Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology), as represented by Dr. Le Quynh Lien and colleagues, which is also the National Member Organization of Vietnam at IIASA. The workshop focused on collaboration between these institutions to tackle critical issues facing the Mekong Delta. IIASA was represented by the Deputy Director General, Dr. Karen Lips as well as by representatives of the Biodiversity and Natural Resources (BNR) and Economic Frontiers (EF) research programs.

IIASA Director General John Schellnhuber will be one of the key speakers at the 16th Alvar Aalto Symposium in Jyväskylä, Finland. The theme of this year's event is, The weight of architecture during the era of extremes. The event takes place over two days under three overarching topics, with presentations on Environment, Resources, and Architecture. Schellnhuber's talk will take place on Thursday, 22 August from 14:00-14:30 as part of the Environment topic.
