The second workshop of the Foresight Exercise is organized in the framework of the “Emerging trade routes between Europe and Asia” scenario building project. The aim of the second workshop is to identify plausible realizations of Arctic regional factors under two distinctly different global scenarios. These two global scenarios are the most quintessential out of the four scenarios by the World Economic Forum Future Council on Trade and Investment based on the deliberations of the first workshop.

The aim of the second consultation of the Advisory Group “Emerging trade routes between Europe and Asia” scenario-building project is to present several candidate global scenario frameworks preselected by the project team to the Advisory Group Members and to discuss the potential of their regional downscaling to the Arctic. An attempt is made to prioritize one overarching framework within which regional scenarios focusing on shipping in the Arctic should be positioned.

The Integrated Solutions for Water, Energy, and Land project, organized a practical and interactive webinar to highlight and share nexus integrated modelling tools and co-design knowledge relevant to stakeholders in large river basins.

Nadejda Komendantova from the Advanced Systems Analysis program is invited to give a presentation on "COVID-19 pandemic and artificial intelligence methods for risk analysis" at the 13th International Scientific Conference on Intelligent Data Processing: Theory and Applications (IDP‐2020). The conference is organized by the Russian Academy of Sciences (RAS) in cooperation with RAS Computing Center of the Federal Research Center "Informatics and Management" of RAS, the Center for Big Data Storage and Analysis Technologies (CASS) based at Lomonosov Moscow State University and the National Technology Initiative (NTI) Competence Center for Artificial Intelligence based at Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology (MIPT).

IIASA organized two panels at the first online Canadian Science Policy Conference (CSPC) 2020. These offered participants the opportunity to join a live policy simulation about complex Arctic policies and explore horizon scanning, foresight, and scenario mapping as tools to solve the multifaceted issues of tomorrow.

IIASA researcher Behnam Zakeri will speak at the International Conference of the Institute of National Planning of Egypt on energy and sustainable development. He will present a perspective that bridges national boundaries focusing on the implications of the Paris Agreement for achieving the UN Sustainable Development Goals.

Leena Ilmola-Sheppard gives a talk on "Global economic system behaviour after COVID-19 - how to use systems analysis in the case of extreme uncertainties" at the 2020 Annual Meeting of the Society for Decision Making Under Deep Uncertainty (DMDU 2020) co-organized by Tecnologico de Monterrey, Mexico. The meeting is centered on the theme “New Ideas, Frontiers and Transformations”.

Nadejda Komendantova is invited to speak at the meeting on Scientific cooperation organized by the Embassy of the Republic of Paraguay in Austria. The meeting is dedicated to the Austrian experience and energy policy. H.E. Ambassador Juan Facetti provides opening remarks at the meeting. 

Scientists from IIASA and the Royal Scientific Society will meet to discuss their respective expertise and research interests in water modeling. This webinar is part of a series providing opportunities for systems researchers from both organizations to explore common research interests and develop future collaborations.
