BLOOM is an interdisciplinary One Health research project that aims to better understand and model the risk of zoonotic disease spillover (particularly Ebola Virus Disease) in Sierra Leone.
Our integrated BLOOM modelling framework combines
- eco-system modelling (of animal populations and forest developments),
- economic modelling (of land-use and labour decision by individuals), and
- disease risk modelling of zoonotic spillover events.
To ground our framework in reality the models are informed by empirical data and policy frameworks.
Workshop Objectives
The objective of this workshop is to introduce the project’s scientific framework and planned activities. We aim to:
- Present the individual model components and their theoretical, numerical, and empirical backgrounds.
- Exchange with fellow researchers and experts to ensure our modelling is grounded in the technical realities of the Sierra Leone context.
- Present our timeline for future scientific engagement and dissemination of results.
- Identify areas where our findings can support ongoing research and explore possibilities for future academic collaboration or co-authorship.
