IIASA Integrated Climate Impacts Research Group Leader, Carl-Friedrich Schleussner, will be the speaker at the upcoming 5vor12 Briefing by the Network for Climate Journalism Austria on one of the most pressing developments in climate science: climate overshoot.
In 2025, the term overshoot gained increasing prominence. The 1.5°C limit set by the Paris Agreement may soon be exceeded, and global warming appears to be accelerating. What does this mean for climate policy, for society, and for media coverage in the coming years? How is the scientific community responding to the decreasing attention given to climate risks in public discourse? And most importantly: how can we still turn the tide?
This 5vor12 briefing will bring together journalists, researchers, and interested members of the public to better understand what lies ahead; what “overshoot” means in concrete terms for climate policy and society; why climate risks are receiving less attention in public discourse; the role of journalism at this stage of the climate debate; and which key decisions must now be made.
The session will be moderated by Lukas Bayer from the Network for Climate Journalism Austria.
Key insights from the briefing will be published in the Network’s monthly newsletter and in the extended 5vor12 Climate Briefings newsletter.
Admission is free, but registration is required. Click here for further information and tickets
