Join us for an engaging event at the Natural History Museum in Vienna to explore how we can define environmental limits and inspire meaningful climate action. IIASA researchers will contribute insights through the Tree Quest citizen science initiative, showcasing innovative approaches to mapping forest carbon across Europe. The program combines scientific perspectives with interactive discussions on how especially young people can help shape a more sustainable future.

How can we measure what is “enough,” and how can we find ways to change it?

This two-part event will explore the role of carbon and climate from the perspective of the world’s forests, and highlight how children and young people can become agents of change in reducing emissions.

In the first part, Milutin Milenković, a researcher in the Novel Data Ecosystems for Sustainability Research Group of the IIASA Advancing Systems Analysis Program, and his team will present Tree Quest, a digital approach for mapping forest carbon content across Europe. This will be followed by a discussion about IIASA, the Tree Quest app, and climate change.

The second part will feature an interactive workshop exploring key climate topics and tracing past and present environmental changes. Participants will also hear from Bernd Resch from the Interdisciplinary Transformation University, Linz, who will introduce his citizen science project, Climate Agents. This project examines how young people perceive climate change in social media and everyday life, and how these perceptions compare with measured climate data.

While participation is free of charge, registration is required as there are limited places available. In addition, participants will require a valid museum admission ticket.
