Anne Goujon will deliver the keynote talk at the 8th Annual Symposium hosted by the Centre for Fertility and Health in Oslo, Norway.
The symposium brings together researchers from Norway and beyond to explore the causes and consequences of changing fertility and family patterns using Norway's extensive national data. The event offers valuable opportunities for networking and establishing new collaborations. With a focus on fostering interdisciplinary research, the symposium aims to promote a research atmosphere that enhances our understanding of fertility patterns and health outcomes. The diverse team of experts includes professionals in epidemiology, demography, genetics, statistics, economics, and medicine.
Population and Just societies (POPJUS) Program director, Anne Goujon will examine the global decline in fertility rates and its broader implications. In the Global North, this trend has led to uncharted territory, with some countries experiencing ultra-low fertility levels. Meanwhile, in the Global South, the pace of fertility transition remains uncertain in many regions. Both dynamics have the potential to significantly impact global population trends. While a wide range of socio-economic, environmental, geopolitical, and individual factors influencing fertility intentions and outcomes in both men and women have been identified, it remains unclear how these elements will interact in the future. This uncertainty has far-reaching implications—social, economic, and political—at both regional and global levels.
