Expert Dialogue on Development, Energy, and Environment

The workshop explores research needs for informing China’s mid- and long-term development, energy, and environmental strategies. It will focus on two key questions related to China’s long-term strategies: (1) how can long-term strategies best inform near-term policies, and (2) how can climate and climate mitigation policies best be integrated with efforts to address other societal priorities from air pollution, health, and employment? The discussion aims to understand how to expand this area of research and to better utilize analytical capability to address the linkages between long-term strategies and near-term policies and between climate policies and other societal goals in support of actual decision making.

The workshop’s goal is to contribute to building a platform for multiple teams and researchers to share knowledge and work together to create trust and community of practice around modeling and related analysis in support of energy and environmental planning. The platform would serve as an interface between Chinese and international researchers and potentially other countries, and between researchers and policy makers.
