The International Vienna Energy and Climate Forum (IVECF) 2026 will take place over two days from 9-10 April 2026, at the historic Hofburg Palace in Vienna, Austria. Co-organized by UNIDO, the Federal Ministry for European and International Affairs of Austria, the Austrian Development Agency, and IIASA, in cooperation with other Vienna-based international organizations and partners, the IVECF 2026 will convene global leaders from governments, international organizations, industry, academia, development partners and civil society, under the theme “Powering Prosperity, Security and Stability”.
Over two days, IVECF 2026 will advance the objectives of the UN Pact for the Future, aimed at strengthening multilateral cooperation to address 21st‑century challenges, by formulating a Vienna Call to Action on Sustainable Energy and Climate Security and a Five‑Year Implementation Plan for the Belém Declaration. In doing so, the Forum will reaffirm green industrialization, just energy transition and climate action as cornerstones of shared prosperity, resilience and global stability, while providing substantive inputs to the initial deliberations on the post‑2030 development agenda.
Participation at this event is subject to approved registration. Due to mandatory security screening and photo verification, this process may take an extended period of time.
Structure of the Forum
The IVECF program is designed around two complementary and interlinked action tracks that run in parallel throughout both days: Global Green Industrialization Dialogue and Country and Regional Implementation.
Through 12 high-level sessions, IVECF 2026 will shape global policy and demonstrate how sustainable energy, just climate action and green industrialization can drive shared prosperity, security and stability, with a strong focus on action and implementation.
The high-level sessions are complemented by a rich program of side-events and dedicated networking areas organized by IVECF partners that provide in-depth exchanges on conference themes.
IIASA-BOKU side event at IVECF 2026
As part of the Forum, IIASA and the University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences (BOKU) are co-organizing a deep-dive session on integrated green industrialization strategies across the energy, material, and climate nexus. The session will bring together experts including IIASA Integrated Assessment and Climate Change Research Group Leader, Volker Krey, senior IIASA researchers Alessio Mastrucci and Adriana Gomez Sanabria, and Dominik Wiedenhofer from BOKU to explore how rethinking the way goods and services are provided can unlock new pathways toward climate and development goals. Through case studies on mobility, buildings, and household appliances, the session will highlight how improving the use of infrastructure and reducing material demand can cut both operational and embodied emissions.
The discussion will emphasize that as countries move closer to net-zero emissions, addressing emissions embedded in infrastructure and products becomes increasingly important. By examining alternative provisioning systems and innovative business models, the session will identify opportunities for green industrial growth while strengthening system resilience and resource security. The event will combine short presentations with an expert panel discussion, offering practical insights for policymakers and industry actors seeking to align climate action with economic development and wellbeing.

Registration for the event will be open until 1 April 2026. Approved registration is mandatory for attendance.
