On 30 September IIASA and the Secretariat of the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD), sharing common interest in supporting transformational changes towards sustainable social-economic-environmental systems and with the view to join their respective activities, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) regarding the application of integrated system analyses to support science, technology and innovation for implementation of the UNCCD.

The document provides a strategic framework for IIASA-UNCCD collaboration. It facilitates the enhancement of further cooperation between the two organizations and draws on their respective strengths and complementarities.

Among the aims of the MoU is to encourage the development and use of integrated systems solutions, promote the translation of scientific research results into policy recommendations, and support the transformation of current production and consumption patterns.

From IIASA side the document was signed by Director General Albert van Jaarsveld and from UNCCD side - by Deputy Executive Secretary Pradeep Monga.
