IIASA Director General Hans Joachim (John) Schellnhuber will participate in a Symposium on China at the University of Cambridge's Clare Hall. This prestigious event will bring together leading scholars, policymakers, and industry experts to explore critical issues in academic collaboration, trade, and cultural exchange with China.
The one-day symposium will reflect on the ideas discussed in the Tanner Lecture on Human Values 2025 to be delivered in Cambridge on Monday, 17 March 2025, the evening before the symposium, which Professor Schellnhuber will also attend, and further examine the evolving dynamics between China and the West, with discussions on:
- The geopolitics of academic collaboration, including research partnerships on climate change.
- Economic engagement and trade strategies in the face of global uncertainties.
- The role of cultural exchange in fostering deeper mutual understanding.
Professor Schellnhuber will contribute his insights on the intersection of climate change policy, international research collaboration, and China’s role in the global sustainability agenda in a presentation titled, Collaborating with China, or "The future of everything". His expertise will be invaluable in addressing how research partnerships can drive impactful solutions for climate action.
The symposium will be held under the Chatham House Rule to encourage open and candid dialogue.
Participation is by invitation only.
