Anna Scolobig and Juliette Martin from EQU RG will share their insights during this webinar organized by RiskKAN.
RiskKAN, which regularly organizes events and webinars as part of its working groups, will host a webinar addressing systemic, emergent, and cascading risks in the context of global and societal change. The session aims to build knowledge on disaster risk reduction while providing an open platform for scientists across disciplines.
Nature-based and community-led solutions stand out as promising pathways for both disaster risk reduction and climate adaptation. These approaches integrate ecological and social systems, drawing on local knowledge and natural processes to build resilience. Nature-based solutions are increasingly promoted as key tools for climate resilience. This webinar will explore their potential, limitations, and real-world applications, with a focus on risk reduction potential, community-led approaches, and governance aspects.

Anna Scolobig and Juliette Martin will discuss why Nature-based Solutions (NbS), despite strong political support and evidence of their potential, still face major implementation and financing gaps. Drawing on interviews, workshops, and comparative analyses of NbS and grey infrastructure, they will highlight key governance barriers, including path dependency, limited evidence, expertise gaps, and misaligned policies and funding. The talk will also showcase examples of how these barriers have been, or could be, overcome, offering practical insights for moving NbS from promise to practice.
