President of the Brazilian Agricultural Research Corporation (EMBRAPA), Celso Moretti, visited IIASA on 12 February 2020.

During the visit Celso Moretti met with IIASA Director General and CEO Albert van Jaarsveld, Deputy Director General for Science, Leena Srivastava and with members of the IIASA external relations team where he learnt more about the IIASA research agenda.

He also met with representatives of the IIASA Ecosystems Services and Management (ESM) Programto learn more about the IIASA GLOBIOM model and the FABLE initiative. 

He will additionally spent time with representatives of the IIASA Water (WAT) Program and the IIASA Energy (ENE) Program.

About Celso Moretti

Celso Moretti has a BSc. degree in agronomy, a MBA in Production Engineering, a MSc. and a PhD. degree in plant science. Researcher with the Brazilian Agricultural Research Corporation (Embrapa) for 24 years, Dr. Moretti has dedicated the last ten years to public administration.

He was Head of the National Vegetable Crops Research Center (Embrapa, Brasília, DF) between 2008 and 2013, and Head of the Research and Development Department of Embrapa between 2013 and 2017. He is alumni (2016) of the Harvard School of Government, Harvard University, Cambridge, USA.

Dr. Moretti has been a courtesy associate professor with the University of Florida (USA) since 2006. He is author or co-author of book chapters, editor of technical books and author and co-author of scientific papers in national and international journals. He has significant international experience having presented scientific papers, acted as a consultant and delivered lectures, seminars and conferences in more than 30 countries. He was previously the Executive Director for Research and Development with Embrapa, taking on the role of President of the organization in January 2020.
