Research Project
The IIASA TRUST Strategic Initiative focuses on:
(i) strengthening the knowledge base for raising awareness on fostering trust through participation-driven science, (ii) lowering the barrier for scientists to use participation-driven approaches, and (iii) providing concrete empirical evidence of the role of participation driven science for raising trust in science. TRUST solidifies IIASA’s Strategy goal to promote the use of participatory processes and soft systems analysis and enables researchers to work towards earning trust among the wider public.
Research Project
The Network for Greening the Financial System (NGFS) is a group of central banks, supervisors and observers committed to sharing best practices, contributing to the development of climate– and environment–related risk management in the financial sector and mobilizing mainstream finance to support the transition toward a sustainable economy.
Research Project
MICAT aims to develop a comprehensive approach to estimate Multiple Impacts of Energy Efficiency (MI-EE) by co-creating a free, easy-to-use, scientifically sound online tool (MICATool). The MICATool will enable holistic analyses of MI-EE at the European, national and local level to strengthen the climate strategy of the Energy Union and accelerate an affordable and just, sustainable energy transition by addressing the challenges and needs of important target groups: policy makers, practitioners and evaluators.
Research Project
To avoid climate risk, a state may resettle an entire community to another location within the country. This is known as planned relocation (PR), a government-led strategy undertaken to guard against the impacts of climate change. PR in Europe remains largely framed as an ad hoc response in post-disaster settings. But this could change with the increased risks of natural disasters. The EU-funded ITHACA project will investigate how current PR and climate adaptation policy and governance landscapes should integrate PR into long-term resilient development in Europe.
Research Project
The HuT is an Innovation Action project funded by the Horizon Europe Framework Programme. The project addresses the distributive justice implications of extreme climate event impacts and aims at developing innovative and procedurally just Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) solutions for dealing with extreme climate events.
Research Project
The NATURANCE project is funded by the Coordination and Support Actions of the Horizon Europe Framework Programme. The main objective of the NATURANCE project is to examine technical, financial and operational feasibility and performance of solutions that are built upon and combine disaster risk financing & investments with Nature-based Solutions (NbS).

Building Arctic Futures: Transport Infrastructures and Sustainable Northern Communities (INFRANORTH)
The "new Arctic" is drawing global interest due to geopolitics, militarization, resource exploration, tourism, and rising environmental alarms amidst swift climate shifts. As transport infrastructures evolve or expand, a pressing concern emerges: Will these frameworks bolster enduring human settlement and sustainable Arctic living, or will they favor transient dwellers like tourists and shift workers? Could transport systems be the key to preserving northern communities?
Research Project
LAMASUS builds on i) decades of experience in direct policy support, ii) unique modeling tools, such as GLOBIOM, the only model that integrates agricultural and land use sectors, and CAPRI, MAGNET and CLUE, which underlie JRC’s land use policy assessments, and iii) novel approaches mobilizing machine learning and citizen science.
Research Project
RESIST will apply a multidisciplinary systems-thinking framework that aims to integrate (i) scientific evidence on key ecosystem processes driving climate change and (ii) socio-economic aspects driving stakeholder decision-making, both of which ultimately affect the Resilience of Ecosystem Services provided by Intact and Sustainably managed Terrestrial ecosystems under future scenarios.
Research Project
In this project on the Distributional Implications of Climate-related Disasters (DIoD) we study the feedback effects on macroeconomic aggregates due to changes in income distributions once a disaster has hit. We do so by introducing agent heterogeneity into two state-of-the-art disaster models already used by many researchers as well as policymakers.

Research Project
ForestNavigator aims at assessing the climate mitigation potential of European forests and forest-based sectors through modelling of policy pathways, consistent with the best standards of LULUCF reporting, and informing the public authorities on the most suitable approach to forest policy and bioeconomy.
With a primarily European scope, ForestNavigator zooms into carefully selected EU Member States to enhance the consistency of the EU and national pathways, but the project also zooms out towards the global scale, and selected key EU trading partners, accounting for extra-EU future drivers and potential leakage effects.
Research Project
This project is funded by the Government of Norway’s International Climate and Forest Initiative (NORAD). It aims to build an independent alliance that can efficiently monitor forest governance in the DRC and to promote the conservation of natural forests to maintain their carbon storage capacity particularly in REDD+ areas.
