IIASA Gender Equality and Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Officer, Anastasia Aldelina Lijadi, will represent the Institute at the EARMA Annual Conference 2026 to discuss strategies to address workplace microaggressions. Her contribution underscores IIASA’s commitment to advancing diversity, equity, and inclusion within the global research management community.
The EARMA Annual Conference will take place in Utrecht, Netherlands, under the theme, Empowering Research Managers and Administrators as Leaders for Impact, spotlighting leadership in guiding teams, shaping strategy, and driving meaningful change across institutions. It is the flagship event for the international research management and administration (RMA) community in Europe. Each year, it brings together hundreds of professionals from over 40 countries to exchange knowledge and share experiences, explore the evolving landscape of research management, and participate in workshops, keynotes, and networking opportunities.
Lijadi will discuss her proposal on effective strategies to foster respectful and inclusive work environments titled, Non-violent communication to combat microaggression at the workplace. Her presentation will showcase IIASA’s commitment to gender equality, diversity, and inclusion, share insights on non‑violent communication to address workplace microaggressions, and seek feedback from the RMA community to strengthen her proposal.
Microaggressions in the workplace, though often subtle, can erode trust, harm wellbeing, and undermine inclusivity. Tackling these behaviors requires more than awareness, it calls for practical tools that empower individuals to respond constructively. Non‑violent communication training offers such a framework, equipping teams to foster respect, reduce conflict, and build a culture of openness. As a global research institute with over 470 employees from 60 countries, IIASA provides a uniquely diverse environment where such initiatives are vital to strengthening collaboration and mutual respect. By promoting dialogue grounded in empathy and understanding, organizations can ensure that diversity and inclusion are lived through experiences across the workplace.
