IIASA Science Diplomacy Director and Head of Communications and External Relations, Susie Kitchens, will deliver the keynote address at the upcoming conference on Regional Engagement in the Era of Responsible Internationalization in Higher Education, co-organized by the Academic Cooperation Association (ACA) and Austria's Agency for Education and Internationalisation (OeAD) in Vienna.
The event will bring together policymakers, national agencies, higher education institutions, and international networks to examine how geopolitical shifts, evolving policy frameworks, and growing interest in responsible internationalization are reshaping international cooperation in higher education. Through a high-level panel and interactive parallel sessions, participants will examine changes in regional approaches to cooperation, identify emerging trends and challenges, and assess the evolving role of programs, funding instruments, and institutional strategies. Particular attention will be given to potential policy shifts, opportunities within the Team Europe approach, and the role of higher education actors in (re-)shaping the global context.
Susie Kitchens' keynote titled, Science diplomacy and regional engagement in times of responsible internationalization, will open the program and provide insights into how science diplomacy can help sustain international collaboration, strengthen trust across borders, and support evidence-informed responses to global challenges. Drawing on IIASA's longstanding experience as an international scientific organization that bridges countries, disciplines, and sectors, she will reflect on the evolving role of science diplomacy in fostering resilient partnerships and advancing responsible approaches to international engagement in research and innovation.
