International Institute for Applied Systems Analysis (IIASA)

We are an international research institute that advances systems analysis and applies its research methods to identify policy solutions to reduce human footprints, enhance the resilience of natural and socioeconomic systems, and help achieve the sustainable development goals.

The IIASA COVID-19 tracker

This tracker presents data on daily COVID-19 cases at the regional level for 26 European countries as of January 2020. Developed by IIASA researcher Asjad Naqvi, it highlights key demographic and socioeconomic information to help researchers and policymakers explore how the virus spreads.

Awards and honors

IIASA takes pride in supporting policymakers in working towards sustainable, equitable solutions to global problems. Alongside the combined impacts of their science and other engagement activities, IIASA staff members are frequently recognized for their individual contributions in the form of numerous honors, awards, and prizes.

Nobel Prize winners

The Nobel Prize is awarded to organizations and people whose contributions conferred the greatest benefit to humankind in the areas of Physics, Chemistry, Medicine, Literature, Peace, and Economic Sciences. IIASA scientists have been awarded the prize six times.

History

Founded to promote East-West scientific cooperation during the Cold War. Today, addressing the global challenges of the 21st century.

Management

IIASA Council

The Council is the governing body of the Institute. The Council is responsible for governance oversight, approval of the institute budget, strategies and governing principles, areas for IIASA research, as well as ensuring that IIASA activities are in line with institutional objectives, the provisions of the Charter, and the interests of Member Organizations.

Governance

IIASA is governed by a Council comprised of one permanent representative from each National and Regional Member Organization. Regulations concerning the Institute’s objectives, conditions of membership, internal structure, and the roles and responsibilities of the Council and management are outlined in the institutional Charter and the delegation of authority framework of Council, Council Committees, and IIASA Management.
