The 1st Risk-KAN Symposium will be held on the 28th of April at the International Institute for Applied Systems Analysis (IIASA).
Risk-KAN Steering Committee Members, Group leads and distinguished guests from academia, private sector, humanitarian sector and international science organisations will convene to discuss: "Multi-hazards and risks in a changing world: A conversation on science, policy, and practice."
The joint ECE / ASA symposium will further serve as a kick-off for the renewed working group structure and leadership and will provide the opportunity to discuss the Risk-KAN vision, identify common interests, activities and grant applications.
For more on related topics, see IIASA's Extreme Weather and Climate Dynamics theme.
Note that this event is by invitation only.
ABOUT:
The Knowledge Action Network on Emergent Risks and Extreme Events (Risk-KAN) is a global hub for knowledge exchange to reduce disaster risk under environmental change. As a Future Earth Global Research Network (GRN) and a joint initiative of WCRP, WWRP and IRDR the Risk-KAN actively promotes multidisciplinary research, action, knowledge mobilization, and training of early career scientists.
Global environmental change driven by human activity is reshaping the climate risk landscape by increasing the frequency, intensity, and complexity of weather and climate events, including emerging multi-hazards, compound events, and unprecedented extremes. This presents new challenges for early warning systems, disaster preparedness and response, and climate adaptation, requiring collaboration across scientific disciplines and engagement with diverse societal actors.
