Biography
Jun Ukita Shepard is a research scholar in the Integrated Assessment and Climate Change Research Group of the IIASA Energy, Climate, and Environment Program. Her research focuses on trade, critical minerals and materials, and energy security.Prior to joining IIASA, she was a physical scientist for the United States Department of Energy, where she led energy system modeling for the Office of Policy. Her portfolio also covered critical minerals, manufacturing, and supply chain policy, including leading the technical implementation of clean manufacturing and vehicle tax credits for the Department.
She received her PhD in Earth and Ocean Sciences in 2020. She also holds a bachelor’s degree from Harvard University and a master’s degree from the University of Cambridge. In addition, she participated in the IIASA Young Scientists Summer Program (YSSP) in 2019.
