Research results from the Horizon Europe project “NATURANCE – Nature for insurance, and insurance for nature” have been highlighted by the European Commission’s Community Research and Development Information Service (CORDIS), the primary platform for sharing the results of EU-funded research and innovation projects.

The feature, entitled “Investing in nature to reduce climate risks”, showcases key achievements and outputs of the NATURANCE project, highlighting the project's contribution to exploring how nature-based solutions (NbS) can help address climate risks and strengthen Europe's resilience. It draws particular attention to the project's Community-led Action (CWA), digital library, innovation labs and overall results. The article is available in six languages on the CORDIS website.

NATURANCE is also featured as part of a broader CORDIS Results Pack entitled “Solutions for a Climate Resilient Europe”, which brings together EU-funded research and innovation initiatives contributing to Europe's climate resilience.

EQU’s contribution to NATURANCE

The NATURANCE project was funded by the Coordination and Support Actions of the Horizon Europe Framework Programme. The main objective of the NATURANCE project was to examine technical, financial and operational feasibility and performance of solutions that are built upon and combine disaster risk financing & investments with Nature-based Solutions (NbS).

The Equity and Justice (EQU) Research Group was part of the recently completed NATURANCE project (2022-2026), leading Work Package 3 that analyzed governance, policy and market/business enablers and barriers of innovative, equitable nature-based insurance and investment solutions. This work package also identified good practice and policy reforms for unlocking the business potential of NbS and scaling up.

What is CORDIS?

The Community Research and Development Information Service is the European Commission's primary source of information on the results of projects funded through the EU's Framework Programmes for Research and Innovation, from the first Framework Programme (FP1) to Horizon Europe.

CORDIS aims to make the outcomes of EU-funded research accessible to professionals, researchers, policymakers, businesses and the wider public. Its mission is to promote the sharing of research results, foster open science, support the development of innovative products and services, and stimulate growth across Europe.

Having NATURANCE featured on this platform is an important opportunity to showcase the project's achievements and demonstrate how EU-funded research can contribute to addressing major societal challenges, including climate change and the transition towards a more climate-resilient Europe.
