As part of the University of Vienna’s educational initiative Mathematik macht Freude, in cooperation with the Junior Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, IIASA will welcome 45 Ukrainian mathematics and physics teachers on October 28, 2026, as part of an educational program in Vienna.

The visit will introduce participants to IIASA’s work in science education, including its workshops for schools and experience engaging high school students. The initiative aims to share best practices in science education and foster knowledge exchange between Ukrainian educators and leading Austrian scientific institutions.

The workshop will introduce participants to IIASA, provide an introduction into systems analysis and highlight the importance of systems thinking skills in school education. Participants will also have the opportunity to experience a hands-on example of a workshop format developed as part of the IIASA Youth Engagement Initiative, exploring practical approaches to bringing systems thinking into the classroom.
