IIASA Director General Hans Joachim (John) Schellnhuber will participate in a high-level discussion on science as a global public good during an international gathering organized by the International Science Council (ISC) in Beijing, China.
The session, titled Science as a global public good, will examine the changing global knowledge landscape, including disparities between regions and institutions, the balance between scientific competition and collaboration, and the influence of political, societal, and technological developments on international research.
Bringing together leading voices from scientific institutions around the world, the discussion will explore how the international scientific community can strengthen cooperation and ensure that scientific knowledge serves the wider public interest. Particular attention will be given to practical approaches, including establishing new collaborative research networks, sustaining essential scientific observation and data infrastructures, and advancing transboundary governance of shared resources.
Schellnhuber will join international experts to discuss how scientific collaboration can help address inequalities in knowledge production and ensure that research benefits societies worldwide.
