IIASA at 8th international Adaptation Futures Conference in Ōtautahi/Christchurch, New Zealand, 13 to 16 October, 2025
The Adaptation Futures Conference is the premier international climate change adaptation conference series that enables practitioners, policymakers, researchers, and academics from across the world to gather to network, collaborate, learn, and inspire.
With increasingly existential climate-related risks, the first evidence of soft and hard adaptation limits has been emerging in diverse contexts. Analysts have suggested that, in addition to conventional adaptation, more focus is needed to consider transformational adaptation approaches for overcoming these adaptation limits and managing impacts and risks in order to enable achievement of resilient and inclusive futures across scales.
IIASA participates in various sessions and organises an interactive session that takes a transdisciplinary perspective towards exploring information needs by policy and practice on transformation and adaptation limits as well as towards mapping possible solutions for the transformation space. The session is focused on concepts, frameworks, methods and grounded evidence to help better understand, assess and, where needed, support implementation of transformational adaptation.
