Keywan Riahi will deliver this year’s Elisabeth Lichtenberger Lecture at the Austrian Academy of Sciences, exploring how climate action can strengthen Austria’s resilience, energy security, innovation, and social cohesion.

Austria is disproportionately affected by climate change, but it also has the knowledge, technologies, and institutions to take effective action. In his lecture, Keywan Riahi will discuss how climate policy can connect emissions reductions with investment, digitalization, and innovation to build a more secure and equitable future.

Riahi co-chaired the Second Austrian Assessment Report on Climate Change, published in 2025. The report brings together the work of more than 200 researchers and provides the most comprehensive assessment of climate change in Austria to date.

Drawing on this experience, he will also explain how researchers from different disciplines develop a shared assessment of the evidence, what makes a good assessment report, and how science and policy can work together to address complex challenges.

The lecture will be held in German.
