AFE Group researchers Dr. Christian Folberth and Dr. Pavel Kiparisov will present results from the ANFOS project at the workshop “Possible Effects of Nuclear War: An Austrian Perspective”, taking place on 29 June 2026 at the Austrian Academy of Sciences in Vienna.
The workshop is organised by the scientific organizing committee of the Austrian Academy of Sciences, in the context of the UN General Assembly’s decision to establish an independent Scientific Panel on the Effects of Nuclear War. It brings together members of the UN Scientific Panel, the Scientific Advisory Group for the Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons, international experts, and the Austrian research community.
The event aims to foster interdisciplinary dialogue on the potential humanitarian, environmental, public health, social, and global consequences of nuclear war. It also provides an opportunity to discuss current research, identify knowledge gaps, and explore future avenues for scientific collaboration in this field of major societal importance.
Dr. Christian Folberth and Dr. Pavel Kiparisov will highlight how the project’s findings can support evidence-based discussions on the broader impacts of nuclear war and inform ongoing international scientific efforts.
The final list of contributions, as well as information about the venue and access to online- participation is available at the event website: https://www.oeaw.ac.at/iiasa-rat/detail/event/possible-effects-of-nuclear-war.
