Almost 3 billion people in the world still don’t have access to modern, safe energy for cooking, and almost a billion don’t have access to electricity and the services it provides. Sustainable Development Goals 7 and 13 define the need globally for all to have access to clean energy. Demand for energy continues to grow as the population expands and energy delivers wellbeing and better living standards to all.

The climate science is clear - we must remove harmful greenhouse gases from the atmosphere to levels that limit the damage that global temperature rises can cause. Therefore, transformational change is needed in our approach to developing, supplying and using energy and the pace of change must accelerate. The International Petroleum  Week 2020 will be the event to showcase what innovation and the latest technology have been accomplished to transform how we provide energy to all. The acknowledgement of human ingenuity, skill and talent is the  central to future success.

Leena Srivastava will take part in the panel session “Asia Outlook: meeting demand and achieving sustainability “. In her presentation with the title” India’s progress on the four pillars of its energy future”, Srivastava will elaborate the two key technologies driving the sustainable energy transition in India, which are solar and wind. India had announced a very ambitious set of Nationally Determined Contributions (NDC) in response to the Paris Agreement on Climate Change. Most of these commitments center around the electricity and forestry sectors. The petroleum sector would be affected to the extent of meeting the energy intensity targets under the NDCs. India has shown real progress in introducing energy efficient lighting and a range of appliances.
