On 18-22 August 2025, the National Research Fund (NRF), Kenya, will be hosting the Kenya National Research Festival 2025. IIASA is proud to strengthen its partnerships and engagement in the region through active participation in this landmark event.
As a member of the IIASA Sub-Saharan Africa Regional Member Organization (SSARMO), Kenya plays a vital role in advancing scientific collaboration and research excellence in the region. The festival will bring together researchers, policymakers, industry leaders, and innovators to explore cutting-edge advancements in sustainable agriculture and food security and highlight transformative solutions to enhance food production, resilience, and sustainability.
At the festival, IIASA will:
- Host a training session on the use of systems analysis to address pressing global challenges;
- Contribute expertise through IIASA researcher Albert Nkwasa, who will serve as a panelist in the session on Building resilience to changing weather conditions through adapting climate-smart agriculture and participate in a roundtable on policy solutions for sustainable agriculture and food security.
Hosted in partnership with the Egerton University and County Government of Nakuru, the festival aims to drive evidence-based solutions that enhance sustainable livelihoods, strengthen value chains, and promote agribusiness growth for long-term national prosperity through the following focus areas:
- Climate-smart agriculture and resilience building
- Food Systems and Nutrition Security c. Sustainable Livestock systems
- Agro-Technology and Innovation for Resilience
- Water management and environmental resources conservation
- Market Access, Value Chains, and Social Equity
- Circular Economy and Nature-based Solutions in Agriculture
- Financing agriculture and agribusiness
- Policy environment for sustainable agriculture and food security
The event will provide a vibrant platform for networking and knowledge exchange, shaping Kenya’s future research agendas, which impact Sub-Saharan Africa. IIASA joins these conversations to contribute systems analysis expertise and facilitate evidence-based discussions on these important topics.
