IIASA Director General, John Schellnhuber, will be an invited speaker at the upcoming New European Bauhaus Festival in Brussels and participate in important conversations concerning the European Green Deal and the imperative of sustainable construction as part of a pathway toward a more sustainable future.

Schellnhuber will play a central role at and deliver a keynote address during the official program of the Belgian Presidency in the opening dialogue on 9 April 2024 from 19:05 to 19:15, where he will share the stage with European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, Alexander De Croo, Prime Minister of Belgium, and many other imminent personalities. In addition, he will participate in the Clean Transition Dialogue on Construction taking place on 9 April 2024 from 14:30-16:30 in the Cinquantenaire Park, Brussels. He will also be attending a high level round table luncheon and two bilateral meetings with representatives of the European Commission during the festival.

This second edition of the New European Bauhaus Festival, will bring together people from all walks of life to discuss and design a sustainable, inclusive, and beautiful future. The event will focus on the results of the first three years of New European Bauhaus and presents a unique opportunity to share insights and perspectives on integrating sustainability and innovation in architecture and design, which are paramount to advancing the clean transition agenda. It will showcase projects that have been created, celebrate success stories, and give an opportunity to the community to meet, exchange, and build further networks.

During the festival, the opportunities and challenges of the ongoing transitions of our societies and economy will also be addressed.

Designed around the pillars of Forum, Fair, Fest, and Satellite events, the festival will be based physically in Brussels at the Parc du Cinquantenaire and the Museum of Art and History, but equally in parallel at events throughout Europe, including in several locations in Austria, and online.

On Friday, 12 April 2024, the festival will also host the New European Bauhaus Prizes 2024 ceremony, giving awards to 20 exemplary existing projects, as well as to the best concepts by young talents across Europe including, for the first time, from Ukraine.
