The Research Council of Norway (RCN) has been the National Member Organization (NMO) representing Norwegian membership of IIASA since Norway became a formal member of IIASA. RCN has established a reference group in Norway to discuss and advise on matters regarding IIASA.
The Russian Academy of Sciences (RAS) is the National Member Organization (NMO) representing Russia’s membership of IIASA. It succeeded the founding member that was the Academy of Sciences of the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics (USSR) following the dissolution of the USSR in 1991.
The National Research Foundation (NRF) is the National Member Organization (NMO) representing South Africa’s membership of IIASA. The NRF has established a NMO Committee comprised of members from South African government, government parastatals, funding agencies, research institutions, and universities.
The Sub-Saharan Africa Regional Member Organization (SSARMO) includes 17 African countries* who are participating in the Science Granting Councils Initiative (SGCI) in Sub-Saharan Africa – a multi-partner, multi-institutional initiative established in 2015 aimed at strengthening institutional capacities of Science Granting Councils in the region.
The Swedish Research Council for Sustainable Development (FORMAS) is the National Member Organization representing Sweden's membership of IIASA. FORMAS funds IIASA and is itself financed by the Swedish Ministry of the Environment and Energy and Ministry of Enterprise and Innovation.
The National Academy of Sciences is one of the founding members of IIASA. The membership contribution for the US is supported by the National Science Foundation. The American Academy of Arts & Sciences served as NMO from 1982 until 2003.
