Fairness is thought to be one of the key factors boosting support for much needed ambitious climate policies. A recent IIASA study offers practical ways of exploring climate policy options guided by different approaches to fairness. This will allow the identification of policies that, by virtue of their fairness, can be viable candidates for compromises emerging from climate negotiations.

IIASA Deputy Director General for Science Leena Srivastava and several other IIASA researchers are contributing to a range of activities at the conference and are organizing a side event looking at strengthening synergies between the Paris Agreement and the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. The side event will serve to introduce the IIASA Transformations within Reach Initiative and its focus on improving societal decision making in this context.
