Annual Research Conference (ARC) was held in Seville in September. This year, the theme of ARC is how to turn green the European way: keeping cutting the edge while remaining social and fair.

Participants of the Annual Research Conference (ARC), co-organised by the Joint Research Centre (JRC) and the Directorate-General for Economic and Financial Affairs (DG ECFIN), discussed different aspects of a successful green transition. Speakers addressed questions including

  • design appropriate policies and instruments to incentivize a green transition;
  • the financial friction and distributional effects of green transitional policies;
  • bring about the necessary innovation and human capital accumulation;

SYRR researcher Qinhan Zhu pitched his research on the Creating Fiscal Resilience in Caribbean Countries via Sovereign Disaster Insurance. He introduced the dimension of resilience to the discussion of green transition, by showcasing his empirical study on sovereign disaster insurance. The presentation emphasised the effectiveness of insurance in building economic and finance robustness, so that natural hazards would not diminish the efforts of green transition. Follow up discussion with officials from DG-ECFIN have been planned after the pitch.
