Circular Economy Modelling Workshop

The workshop is jointly organised under the EU and ANR-funded projects DECEP, PEPR Recyclage, and CircEUlar, in collaboration with partners including Tilburg University, RRECQ, IREGE-USMB, CEE-ZHAW, and LNEG. 

Throughout the day, participants will engage in a rich programme of paper presentations, keynote talks, and policy discussions covering key themes in circular economy modelling, including recycling and resource efficiency, trade in scrap and waste, market structure and competition, critical minerals, and circular product design.

The morning sessions will feature research on topics such as extraction and recycling costs, scrap trade dynamics, and oligopolistic competition in mineral markets, followed by a second session exploring recycling versus downcycling, strategic resale models, and incentives for circular product-service systems. A keynote address will be delivered by Prof. Reyer Gerlagh (Tilburg University), followed by a networking lunch.

The afternoon programme will focus on supply chain equilibrium models, circular economy strategies in IAMs such as WITCH, and the presentation of the GTAP 12 database. Additional sessions will address global waste trade dynamics, plastic eco-innovation, electronic waste flows, and experimental evidence on behavioural interventions in waste management.

The day will conclude with a dedicated policy session on the state of circular economy in the EU, featuring a presentation from the Joint Research Centre and the CircEUlar project, followed by closing remarks.

This workshop provides a unique opportunity to exchange cutting-edge research, foster collaboration, and discuss policy-relevant insights for advancing the circular economy transition in Europe and beyond. It also offers early-career researchers a valuable chance to present their work and receive feedback from senior scholars and experienced professionals in the field.
