'Risk-layering' strategies to reduce, retain and transfer disaster risk not only protect productive assets and lives, but implemented appropriately, could yield a number of additional benefits that could enhance wellbeing and resilience. Yet, conventional static macroeconomic models are not capable of analysing how alternative fiscal resource allocations to risk-layering options may affect developing countries’ growth trajectories under the impact of climate change.

Well-being, happiness, quality of life or life satisfaction are the ultimate goals of any human, regardless of status, profession, wealth, religion, or nationality. Governments begin to focus their attention directly on the multidimensional national well-being, including and going beyond economic and material aspects. They look for new under-utilized resources that would raise the national well-being even despite weak economic growth. To discover effective and efficient solutions, one needs to maximize synergies and reduce losses from trade-offs. Systems analysis offers tools to do so.

The Austrian transport sector is crucially governed by “systemic delays”, caused by long-lasting infrastructure and vehicle stocks in operation for multiple years. In PETRA, these characteristics are linked with policies that had a succinct impact on the transport sector in the past to improve evaluating the delay and effectiveness of future policies.
Research Project
The ERC PoC project Picture Pile Platform is an innovative, commercially self-sustaining platform that uses the crowdsourcing game Picture Pile for efficiently and intuitively classifying images for machine learning. It will offer a standardized, easy-to-use way for everyone to freely and quickly set-up their own picture pile campaigns for collecting image classifications by the crowd in a gamified environment, where participation is incentivized through extrinsic and intrinsic motivations.
