Colleagues from IIASA Water Security Research Group (WAT) host a special workshop with design students, to foster conversation between designers and scientists.

WAT colleagues will be hosting students from New Design University, St Pölten, in a collective learning session on information design and visual communication. The session has been developed to facilitate conversation and exercises on exploring how to communicate science visually. The overarching aim is to inspire designers and scientists to generate ideas about sharing, illustrating and communicating information through visual media.

Activities will include:

  • group work exercise, inspired by presentations on data visualization
  • presentations on three separate watersheds, followed by group discussions about basins and how to address topics most important for communication
  • facilitated discussion on inspiration & challenges that scientists face in communicating information and that designers face when trying to translate and understand scientific information
